Welcome to day two and my stop on Amy Sinibaldi’s Playground Showcase! I have been smitten with this line ever since I got a sneak peek from Amy in the spring. It brings me back to carefree childhood days of playing jumprope and hopscotch with my friends, then sitting in the grass, making daisy chain crowns to wear.
I don’t know how she does it, but Amy has a way of making a playful and whimsical line feel sophisticated at the same time. She includes the perfect balance of bright, happy colors with some great low volume fabrics mixed in. I play a little game with myself and try to pick a favorite print from each bundle of fabric I buy. I just can’t decide which is my favorite in this line. They’re all so petty!
Fall is coming quickly and I decided I needed a new bag…..because why not treat myself to some selfish sewing! I don’t know about you but ever since I started making my own bags, store bought bags just don’t do it for me.
I love making something original that I know no one else will be carrying. And of course I love adding my own personal touches. I chose the Ring O’ Roses print in Sand, which pairs so beautifully with Art Gallery Denim. I used Noodle head’s Campfire Messenger Bag pattern. It’s the perfect size for a cross body bag, with room for my wallet, pockets for my chapstick and phone and plenty of room for my sketch book. Which brings me to my next creation….
I’ve been trying to get back into drawing over the last couple of months, so started carrying around a small sketch book for those little moments when I have free time. School pick-up lines, soccer practice….you know the drill. I decided I needed a pretty cover for my sketch book to inspire my creativity. I combined Playground patchwork with some sewing illustration (a technique I’ve been learning from Minki Kim and Kristin Esser‘s book Sew Illustrated). I added a little snap strap to keep the sketch book from popping open in my purse. Inside, I included a little picket to hold some pencils.
I loved pairing AGF’s Denim with playground so much that I decided to make a pillow for my living room. I chose a simple flying geese pattern. I love it so much, I think I’m going to make a couple more!
I used a section of selvedge as a little tag on my pillow…..I love adding little personal touches.
For more Playground inspiration, you should go checkout Art Gallery’s Playground Lookbook. I was so thrilled to have my kite mini included!
How about a little giveaway? I’ll be choosing one lucky winner on Monday, Sept 19th (10am PDT) for a charm pack of Playground, hand cut from my stash (2 charms per print – 40 total) plus a little secret something made by me. To enter, leave a comment on this blog post. For an additional entry, leave a comment on my Instagram giveaway post. Good luck!
Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you’ll go check out the other makers through October 3rd. I personally can’t wait to see all the beautiful creations. What an inspiring group of people!
